“What is a community?”

The village, for me, is ultimately about the people, in other words, us. Before joining Learning Village, I imagined I would gain a lot of intellectual lessons regarding hosting and self-organizing. And I did, to a certain extent. But my most important harvest is the people I met and the beautiful connections we had.
Visit this link for the original post on Linh's blog. In the last article I talked about listening to Steve sharing his nomadic life. Here is the story, as I heard it. “My name is Steve and I am a nomad without a home.”
This series of stories were written by Linh Pham, a member of the Learning Village, posted first on his personal blog Story Weaver. Please visit this link for bilingual English - Vietnamese post on his page. Last month I participated in a training called the Learning Village. For better or worse, the training took place in the midst of a pandemic. Here is my account of what happened.

Dear Learning Villagers, We are just a day before Christmas and yet our planning does not stop for our gathering in March next year! We are launching a crowdfunding campaign today to enable participants to travel to the Learning Village. This is a call that needs to be shared widely in our community, so we are asking for you to help us spread the word and share the link with a personal message (that is always a key to reach people) on any social media platforms or via email to your friends and community members. Hello Asian Learning Villagers! We are now less than 3 months away from gathering for our week together in Vietnam and a lot is happening. As the Calling Team for this gathering, we are in deep learning about how to invite the practice of self-organization and shared responsibility for community. It is our desire to create the minimal necessary structures for co-creating and to hold the space for this community to do its work together. You are invited to step up and participate in this co-creation process by joining an initial community call on January 10 at 2pm Vietnam time (8am CET). The purpose of this call is to update everyone and to answer questions regarding registration, economy, booking of accommodations, scheduling and (most importantly!) how you can be involved. My excitement for the learning village is growing since I recently visited the site where we will be gathering in March. |
